How to get rid of mounting foam on clothes

There are many dirty processes among construction works. Dust and remnants of materials stick here and there - after this, not only clothes, it is difficult to clean the room. When installing doors and windows, the gaps are filled with mounting foam, which is sprayed from a cylinder. It goes without saying that after such work, overalls cannot remain perfectly clean. Even worse, when the foam accidentally gets on your favorite wardrobe items. A completely logical question immediately arises in my head: how to remove mounting foam from clothes at home?

General recommendations

What to do if the clothes got polyurethane foam? You need to react quickly, as it is easier to deal with a fresh stain. You need to act like this:

  • arm yourself with a knife, nail file or spatula and try to remove as much foam from clothes by hand as possible;
  • test the selected cleanser in an inconspicuous place - on a small area of \u200b\u200bthe fabric on the wrong side;
  • moisten the place of contamination with a solution or attach a treated cotton pad to it and wait a bit;
  • wipe the problem area with a sponge or brush;
  • send the item to the wash, after soaking it in soapy water for about half an hour.

Whichever tool is chosen, it is better to protect yourself by wearing rubber gloves.Even if it is regular acetone, in large quantities, it dries the skin and can cause itching, so protection will not hurt. In addition, the foam is very sticky to the skin, and it will not stick so much to latex gloves.

Special funds

Mounting foam immediately adheres and expands when sprayed. The easiest way to remove it from clothes is to use special tools.

Before using any method, it is necessary to get rid of the adhered piece of foam mechanically as much as possible - gently pry it off with something sharp and scrape it off with your hands.

You should try not to rub the sticky substance on the fabric.

  1. To remove mounting foam from clothing, you can use a paste-like chemical agent to remove it from fabric surfaces and carpets. Since its direct purpose is to clean textile and pile surfaces, it works very gently even with the most delicate products.
  2. If there is a foam spray gun at home, then in any case there should be a special tool for cleaning it, for example, Cosmofen. After a couple of cylinders, the tool is decently clogged and should be cleaned. This composition is also suitable for cleaning textiles.
  3. Whichever remedy is chosen, in both cases it should be thickly applied to the contamination and evenly distributed. It is better to leave the mixture on clothes for about half an hour, knead the stuck piece with your hands, and only then wipe it off with a napkin. If the result is not good enough, you can apply the composition again.
Cosmofen

With such substances, you should behave very carefully when working with delicate fabrics. Bright things need to be cleaned with extra care, as special products usually contain acetone.

Drying spots in the sun

If there is no need to put on a thing contaminated with foam in the near future, you should try just leaving it in the sun. Under the influence of radiation, the structure of polyurethane foam fibers is destroyed, and the adhering piece changes color. However, this is a very long process - this way you can keep the thing under ultraviolet light all summer.

The garment is hung out or unfolded so that the foam stain is constantly under the sun. Over time, the adhering piece dries up and becomes yellow-brown. The material stops sticking and dries out, which allows you to remove dried mounting foam from clothes with a simple rubbing. If the thing has been in the sun for a long time, then there will be no problems with cleansing.

This method has its drawbacks - staying in the bright sun for such a long time will certainly lead to the product fading and losing its original color. Therefore, here it is necessary to act depending on the quality and color of the soiled thing.

Dimexide

Anyone who has treated purulent wounds is familiar with such a pharmaceutical preparation as dimexide. It is prescribed for washing cleaned out inflammations after surgery, as well as for diseases of the joints.

This tool somehow miraculously softens a piece of adhering foam, after which it is easily removed. First, you should get rid of the foam mechanically as much as possible, and then apply dimexide to the remaining stain. The material becomes soft and pliable and is simply removed from the surface without any effort.

Solvents

The foam is removed much easier if it got on the clothes a few seconds ago. Therefore, you should always have a small spatula and gun cleaner on hand.A worthy replacement for it can serve as an ordinary solvent for paints and varnishes, which is sure to be found in a house where repairs are being carried out.

  1. Since it is a paint thinner, such as White Spirit, it is able to remove not only dirt, but also leave a light stain on clothes. To make sure that the garment is dyed with high quality and its color is fixed, you should first apply the solution to a small area on the wrong side. If the product has not faded in this place, you can continue the procedure.
  2. It is better to add a little water to the solvent to make it less aggressive. Under the stain you need to put a napkin and with a cotton pad apply the composition to a piece of foam. Don't wait too long, a couple of minutes will be enough.
  3. To dissolve the stain, you can try using a regular nail polish remover. Acetone in this case is no less effective than building solvents.
Bright and delicate fabrics

Bright and delicate fabrics should be cleaned very carefully. It is better to use the solvent immediately after the foam gets on the clothes - this way the stain will be removed faster.

Freeze

Another effective way to get rid of the foam, if it is very sticky and impossible to scrape off, is to send the thing to the freezer. The foam is well removed not only after drying at high temperatures, but also when frozen. It hardens and is easily removed from the fabric. You need to act like this:

  • fold the product so that the place of contamination is on top. In no case should you crumple clothes, as foam can spread over its entire surface;
  • send the thing to the freezer and forget about it for 2-3 hours. If you need to remove the stain quickly, then you can use the quick freeze mode;
  • after the foam has hardened, peel it off the fabric product with a knife or any sharp object that can pick up its edges;
  • the remaining foam can be cut off with a nail file;
  • if the trace still remains, apply acetone to a cotton pad and apply it to the problem area;
  • the stain should go away completely, but after acetone it is better to immediately wash the item in a high-quality powder, which will certainly help to fix the result.

If the mounting foam is already on the clothes, then in order to remove it, you will have to make a lot of effort. It is very plastic and sticks to the hands, so it is very difficult to remove it. It must be remembered that a fresh stain is removed much easier, therefore, as soon as the foam gets on the clothes, it must be removed immediately.

Each of the above methods is good in its own way. Nevertheless, special fabric cleaners should be preferred, since their composition is more suitable and not as aggressive as solvents.
