How to wash boxing gloves

The question of how to wash boxing gloves often arises among athletes at the moment when they have a persistent unpleasant odor that is difficult to remove with soap. When playing sports, the hands sweat a lot, pathogenic bacteria actively multiply in a humid environment, which leads to the appearance of a smell. Boxing gloves are a very expensive attribute, so they need to be looked after very carefully. It should be borne in mind that if the gloves are leather, then they cannot only be wetted, but also different chemicals can be used for cleaning.

How to take care of inventory

In order not to bring boxing gloves to such a state that they want to be washed, a number of recommendations must be followed.

  • Before putting on gloves on your hands, you need to wrap special elastic bandages tightly. They absorb sweat and dirt from the hands into themselves and allow the inside of the gloves to get dirty. Washing and drying boxing bandages is very easy.
  • After playing sports, all equipment must be taken out of the sports bag and hung out to dry. If this is not done, then sports accessories can become moldy.
  • Arriving home, you need to stuff boxing gloves with crumpled newspapers and leave to dry. You can also dry attributes with a special dryer. It is allowed to use heating radiators for quick drying, but only if they are not very hot.
  • You can use a special spray that neutralizes the smell of sweat, or pour ordinary talc into the middle.
  • The surface of boxing gloves is periodically wiped with a sponge dipped in soapy water. Thanks to this procedure, it is possible to remove impurities. After washing away the dirt, the accessories are rubbed with a soft cloth to a shine.
  • If the gloves smell very sweaty, then you need to take a small piece of cotton wool, moisten it with table vinegar and place it in the middle.

If the boxing accessories are made of genuine leather, then after washing the dirt from the surface, they are rubbed with a cloth slightly moistened with vegetable oil. This softens the skin and prevents cracking.

You can apply various skin care products, but they should be quickly absorbed and leave no residue.

Drying gloves

There are quite original methods for drying equipment. Some athletes use a hair dryer, others resort to a shoe dryer, and still others simply hang out their equipment to dry after each intense workout.

To eliminate an unpleasant odor, you can put boxing gloves in a plastic bag and place them in the freezer for a couple of days.

Handwash

If you need to wash boxing gloves, it is best to resort to hand washing. Wash sports equipment in lukewarm water with a little neutral detergent. You can use a gel for washing delicate fabrics or baby shampoo. If such products are not at hand, then baby soap will do.

After washing, things are rinsed several times in cold water. At the last rinse, a little conditioner is added to the water in order to get rid of the unpleasant odor. In this way, you can also wash a special boxing helmet.

It is very important to dry your sports accessories well after washing. For this purpose, you can use an electric hair dryer or a special shoe dryer. Alternatively, tightly stuff the inside with crumpled newspapers and change them for new copies as they get wet.

It is often impossible to wash sports accessories, because as a result, the structure of the material will deteriorate, and the equipment will lose its performance. At the same time, you can wash the elastic bandages for boxing at least every day. Nothing will happen to them.

If boxing gloves are made of genuine leather, then it is strictly forbidden to wet them. Such equipment is cleaned only with a dry method.

Washing machine

Washing boxing gloves in the washing machine is undesirable, so as not to spoil them. But if the sports equipment is already very dirty and emits an unpleasant smell, then you can resort to washing in a typewriter. But this can only be done if the gloves are not made of leather, but of high-quality leatherette. Wash a similar thing, following these rules:

  • Boxing gloves are soaked for an hour in lukewarm water with a little mild detergent. You can add a teaspoon of baking soda to the water.
  • After soaking, sports accessories are placed in the washing machine. Set the temperature to no more than 40 degrees and spin at minimum speed. It is advisable to turn on the quick wash mode;
  • Pour a little gel designed for delicate fabrics into the detergent compartment.
  • Turn on the washing machine and wait for the gloves to be washed.

If sports items are too wet after washing, they can be lightly wrung out or hung over the bathtub to drain excess liquid. You can’t twist the gloves too much, as the leatherette can crack or burst at the seams.

Washing gloves

In the event that the textile part on the cuffs has acquired a greasy hue, the fabric is pre-wiped with a solution of dishwashing detergent, and then it is already washed in any convenient way.

To prevent damage to boxing gloves when washing in a washing machine, they must be washed together with small items.

How to avoid laundry

There are several recommendations that will help keep sports equipment in pristine condition for a long time and avoid washes:

  1. Coming home from training, you must immediately pull everything out of it. Humid environments are excellent conditions for bacteria to thrive.
  2. Gloves must be put in a separate bag so that they do not absorb the smell of sweat from other sports items.
  3. Do not wear wet gloves for training.High humidity and sweat contribute to the reproduction of not only bacteria, but also fungi.
  4. Gloves should be treated regularly with antiseptic sprays. You can apply the antibacterial agent directly to your hands, and then put on gloves.

If you want to update the look of your sports equipment, you can rub the gloves with shoe cream that matches the color or apply a thin layer of any vegetable oil.

Do not use any aggressive detergents to care for sports equipment, as this will lead to their damage.

Any sports equipment is not cheap, especially when it comes to professional boxing gloves. With intense and frequent training, these things can lose their attractive appearance and acquire a rather unpleasant smell. There are many different ways to clean gloves without washing, but if they do not help, then things have to be washed. If there is any doubt about whether the sports equipment will retain its appearance after washing, this idea should be abandoned.
