The right approach to washing shirts prolongs their wear life. If you follow all the recommendations when washing, then even an inexpensive shirt will look like new after 2 years.
Hand or machine wash?
How to wash a shirt is up to you: it all depends on the quality of the product, the material and the degree of contamination. As a rule, high-quality products perfectly tolerate washing in a washing machine. Without losing its appearance, an expensive shirt can last 4-5 years, even if you wash it every other day. More budget things are desirable to wash by hand.
To make hand washing as easy as possible, pre-soak the item in warm water. To enhance the effect, immediately add the powder and leave the item for 30-40 minutes. After that, wash the shirt as usual, but do not rub the cuffs and collar too vigorously otherwise they will lose their shape. Tips how to wash shirt collar and cuffs you can read in a separate article on our website.
When washing shirts in the washing machine, follow these guidelines:
- Fasten all buttons before washing to avoid damaging the material.
- When washing linen, silk and slim shirts (very thin fabrics), use a protective bag.
- Wash in manual, delicate mode or on the program "Quick wash".
- The optimum water temperature for washing is 40 degrees.
- In the machine settings, set the number of revolutions to 900.
Fabric Matters: Washing Cotton, Linen, and Silk Shirts
Cotton is the most unpretentious material and there are no special problems in washing it. To keep the color white, white shirts can be washed with a small amount of bleach added. Colored items are recommended to be washed with liquid detergents or special powders for colored fabrics. Thanks to this, they do not shed and retain a bright color.
Delicate items made of linen and silk require careful care. If they are not washed properly, the material may shrink or fray. To avoid unpleasant consequences, do not twist such things in the washing machine. It is best to dry linen and silk shirts on hangers so as not to damage or wrinkle the fabric. Over time, silk products may lose their original luster. This can be avoided by adding 1-2 tablespoons of vinegar to the water with each hand wash.
