Faucet tee for connecting the washing machine

The tee comes to the rescue in cases where it is not possible to draw a separate water line for the washing machine. Ease of installation and a minimum of necessary tools are its main advantages. So, a walk-through faucet will be a convenient solution in case of moving to a new apartment or when there is no extra money for plumbing and materials for a separate line.

There are only two types of such devices:

Tees - serve for "tie-in" into the pipeline.
Overhead cranes, which help you connect the washer to any plumbing fixture.

Important! Do not confuse tees with angle valves. The latter are used if there is a separate line for the washing machine, they have only two outlets and are not suitable for tapping into the pipeline.

We install a tee in the water supply

Such devices are convenient to use if you have plastic pipes at home. In the case of metal pipes, installing a faucet without special tools will be much more difficult.

For ordinary tees, plumbing fixtures are not needed, but only a water pipe. But, unlike straight valves, they require a larger set of tools.

To install a tee you will need:

adjustable wrench - nowhere without it, you need to tighten the nuts with something;
a double hose is needed only if one does not come with a washing machine;

It happens that "native" hoses are supplied of dubious quality. In order not to flood yourself and your neighbors, it is better to buy a good reinforced double wall hose, and leave the first in reserve.

calibrator for plastic pipes - necessary for the correct connection of the tee to the pipeline;

You can do without a calibrator, but if the pipes are cut crookedly and the valve starts to etch, you will have to change the entire piece of the pipeline.

consumable parts - o-rings, winding, nuts to make all connections more reliable;
flow filter - used to purify water.

Whether or not to use the latter is your choice. On the one hand, it will have to be changed or cleaned periodically, on the other hand, your device may last longer, since the quality of water in the domestic water supply system leaves much to be desired.

After you have acquired all the necessary spare parts and tools, you can proceed to install the device:

First of all, turn off the water to this section of the pipeline (or for the whole apartment, if there is only one tap).
Next, you need to mark the required section of the pipe for cutting. To do this, measure the length of the tee, but do not forget that the threaded connections do not need to be counted, as they must overlap both ends of the pipe.
Cut off the measured section of pipe.
First unscrew the mounting nuts from the valve and then put them on the ends of the pipe.

Here you will need a calibrator. They need to expand and align the holes in the pipes, and then mount the crane.

Install the tee and tighten the nuts.

After that, you can connect a hose to the tee, after winding the FUM tape onto its thread.

Such devices are used for connecting washing machines to the water supply using plumbing fixtures. Installation of the crane is very simple, requires a minimum of spare parts and tools. Such a valve can be connected to a kitchen faucet, washbasin, hot water tank or even a cistern.

Recommendations. It is better not to install a through valve on old pipes, and in the case of a water heating tank, it must be connected to the "supply" line.

For installation, you will need an adjustable wrench and FUM tape. As with the tee, you can purchase a new hose.

Mounting process:

Turn off the water.
Unscrew the hose going to the plumbing fixture using an adjustable (or gas) wrench.
Clean the threads of debris (for example, old winding).

If the connection is made to an old metal pipe, then it must be cleaned with a file to remove the rust layer.

Wrap the cleaned thread with FUM tape and mount the valve.
Also wrap the external thread of the tap with tape and wind the hose from the plumbing fixture onto it.
After that, attach the hose from the washing machine and tighten all the nuts with an adjustable or gas wrench.

At the end of the installation, check the connection and make the first test run.
