Mounting foam is used during repairs to fix any parts or seal holes. The material is valued because of its high adhesion, but the same quality becomes a disadvantage if the solution gets on some other surface. You'll have to try a few methods to figure out how to get foam off your clothes.
Basic cleaning rules
Polyurethane foam is used in construction to fill voids, enhance sound insulation, glue objects together, etc. It interacts with almost any surface, therefore it has a reliable grip.
It is very difficult to remove dried mounting foam from clothes, they try to scrub it off as soon as they notice the stain. For the same reason, while working with MP, builders always wear overalls. If you need to clean this wardrobe item, then you should not worry about the quality of things, such a fabric is very rarely deformed. It is much harder to remove mounting foam from cotton, since this material is resistant to various means, even solvents do not always affect its structure.
Even experienced housewives do not know how to wash mounting foam from silk, suede or fur. These fabrics will not withstand the impact of aggressive agents, and everything else is unlikely to affect the composition itself.When cleaning these things yourself, the risk is too great that the material will collapse, so it is better to turn to professionals who have specialized equipment.
Not every means is capable of cleaning clothes, moreover, some of them only worsen the state of things. These include:
- Water. As soon as moisture hits the foam, the porous structure of the substance absorbs it and eats even more into the fabric.Therefore, with conventional soaking, the stains only become more stable.
- Vinegar. A highly concentrated substance helps with many pollutions, but in this case it only worsens the situation.
- Heat. It will not be possible to clean clothes in boiling water or in any other way that involves an increase in temperature. In this case, the MP will become more viscous and will be absorbed into the tissue even more.
- Hydrogen peroxide. The foam reacts with this liquid, after which the pollution cannot be removed even by dry cleaning.
- unrefined gasoline. It not only does not help to cope with a stubborn stain, but also leaves an oily trail.
How to wipe mounting foam from clothes?
It is easiest to remove the stain as soon as it appears on the fabric, so it is worth acting as soon as possible. The methods described below are suitable for both fresh pollution and old ones, usually one or more of them are tried.
Solvent
Profile tools for eliminating this composition are most suitable, but they are not always possible to use. High concentration formulations are sold in hardware stores, the sequence of actions is as follows:
- Remove the main part of the foam with a sponge, hands or a scraper, especially if the stain is fresh.
- Soak a cloth liberally in the solvents and wipe the stained area with it.
- Wait 15–20 minutes, and then use the rough side of a sponge or brush to remove the remaining MP.
In some cases, the procedure is repeated several times. If the thing is not immediately wiped off, then it is placed in the washing machine in the usual mode. Before removing dirt, choose a product that is not very aggressive. Penosil CLEANER PRUSC, UZIN Clean-Box, Bauset are suitable for this.
Sunflower oil
It is often used to remove varnish or paint. Consider how to remove mounting foam from clothes with this solution:
- Heat the oil on the stove or in the microwave, remove the main part of the foam, and then apply with a rag to the stain.
- Wait 15 minutes for the oil to soak into the dirt.
- Pour in the powder and wash the thing on your hands.
- If you can see that the stain is partially coming off, put the clothes in the washing machine and turn on the usual mode. Hot water should not be used here.
Dimexide
Another tool that can be used to wash the remnants of mounting foam. The anti-inflammatory drug is effective due to dimethyl sulfoxide (the main active ingredient). It effectively copes not only with MT, but also with other resistant compounds, for example, instant glue.
To do this, the main part of the sealant is also previously removed, and then the solution is applied to the clothes. It is most convenient to do this with a rag or cotton wool. It is left for 30-40 minutes, and then cleaned with a coarse bristle brush. After that, the thing is washed in a convenient way: in a typewriter or by hand.
Kerosene
Sometimes it is replaced with refined gasoline or thinner. Any stain remover is fine too, but using that alone reduces the likelihood that regular powder will work. Sequencing:
- Wipe the contaminated area with kerosene.
- Wait 30 minutes, lightly dampen with a cloth and apply stain remover.
- Wash clothes and leave them in cool water.
- Wash it in the washing machine after 20 minutes.
Cold
According to the basic recommendations, it is impossible to use hot water or other high temperatures, therefore, clothes from polyurethane foam are cleaned with cold. A similar effect is achieved when a piece of chewing gum is stuffed into a freezer. Spot removal takes place in several stages:
- Put the clothes in the bag and tie it so that the area with the foam remains outside.
- Put it in the freezer and wait for it to dry completely. Here a lot depends on the capacity of the refrigerator, 40 minutes are usually enough for complete solidification.
- Use a scraper or brush to remove a piece of dirt.
If there is still a trace on the clothes, then it is removed with a solvent or any other means that we talked about.
There is another option than to remove the mounting foam - leave the clothes in the sun. From ultraviolet light, the porous structure of the substance will collapse and the stain will be quickly removed. True, this will take several days, and there is also a risk that the clothes will partially fade from the sun.
In order not to face this situation again, during construction work it is worth putting on things that you don’t mind getting dirty, and also don’t neglect goggles and gloves. In this case, you do not have to think about how to save the thing and not ruin it.
