Lamb wool blanket wash: in a washing machine or by hand

A sheepskin blanket requires delicate care in order to avoid damage to the material and loss of its thermal qualities and softness. That is why, when cleaning sheepskin bedding, you should follow some rules. Whether a sheepskin blanket can be washed in a washing machine depends on the type of product.

What items can be washed

Before proceeding with the purification, it is necessary to determine the type of canvas. Currently, various technologies are used in the manufacture of sheep wool blankets.

  • Quilted - the most comfortable and durable products that are unable to deform during cleaning, so they tolerate both manual and automatic washing.
  • Solid woven fabrics are not recommended to be machine washed. You can clean this type of product manually using a gentle mode or taking it to dry cleaning.
  • Fur products must not be washed in the machine: they may lose their volume. To clean them, use a dry method or dry cleaning.
Washing a woolen blanket in a washing machine too often is not recommended: it may lose its original appearance. In addition, this cleaning method can adversely affect the quality of the material.

Any kind of sheepskin linen should be washed with powders containing lanolin, a substance that has a beneficial effect on wool.

Cleaning methods

To prevent the loss of lightness and warmth, as well as to restore purity, the sheepskin is cleaned in the following ways:

  • Dry cleaning. Professional cleaning will help restore freshness to the product and will not affect the quality of wool.
  • Dry cleaning method. Cleansing with foam is used for small stains on the surface.There is no need to pre-soak the item.
  • The manual method is considered the most suitable for sheep wool products. However, when wet, the blanket absorbs all the water and becomes extremely heavy.
  • Machine wash is used in cases where the manufacturer has not set a restriction for this cleaning method.

A tag will tell you how to properly wash the product, on which care instructions may be indicated.

Blanket tag

As a rule, manufacturers put a limit on ironing sheepskin, a ban on bleaching and drying in a centrifuge, and also recommend cleaning in dry cleaning conditions.

However, with care, you can successfully wash a wool blanket at home.

How to wash sheep wool fabric

If there is no restriction on washing on the tag of the thing, first of all, you need to choose a detergent. Most often used:

  • laundry soap;
  • universal powder that does not contain bleach and bleach;
  • liquid detergent for wool;
  • washing powder for wool.

First you need to get rid of the dust by shaking out the blanket well. A vacuum cleaner can help in this matter, which perfectly collects small dirt.

After that, you should decide on the method of purification. Both for manual and automatic washing, the water temperature should not exceed 30 ° C.

It is not recommended to squeeze a thing out of a sheepskin with a centrifuge. In addition, the fabric should not be twisted strongly during the spin cycle.

Handwash

Having decided to wash a sheep wool blanket with your hands, you need to weigh your strength. A wet sheepskin will become very heavy, so one person cannot cope with this matter. In addition, you should prepare a place where the thing will dry: it should be spacious.

When washing, follow these recommendations:

  • it is necessary to wash the canvas by placing it in a bath using a large volume of water;
  • first, the product is soaked in washing powder for a quarter of an hour;
  • dirt should not be strongly rubbed off: this way you can irrevocably deform the material;
  • the thing is washed by lifting it several times in a washing solution;
  • to eliminate intense pollution, rub the stains with a toothbrush dipped in soapy water before washing;
  • rinse the sheep's cloth several times. Optionally, you can add a small amount of wine vinegar to the rinse solution to preserve the color of the fabric;
  • do not squeeze and twist the thing;
  • after washing the blanket, it is laid out on a horizontal surface, for example, in the shade in the yard, on ropes, a clothes dryer or near a heater;
  • during drying, the thing must be turned over and shaken out regularly: this way it will dry faster.
Blanket washing

It is forbidden to clean a woolen blanket in a typewriter at a high temperature, as well as to dry it in the sun: the fabric may shrink and lose its volume.

Automatic washing

Washing a blanket made of sheep's wool in a washing machine is carried out with special products designed for woolen items.

To give softness and a fresh smell to the material, conditioner can be added to the powder. Before washing, make sure that the product will fit in the drum of the machine.

In order not to spoil the material, you should adhere to the following rules:

  • the blanket is placed in the drum, carefully straightening it or rolling it up;
  • wash the item using the "Wool" mode;
  • it is necessary to wash with cold water, turning off the spin mode or setting the minimum speed;
  • rinse the item twice;
  • after turning off the machine, the canvas is carefully pulled out, allowed to drain and straightened horizontally;
  • drying is carried out in the fresh air, away from direct sunlight.
If there is any doubt that there is enough space in the washer for a bulky canvas, it is better not to risk it: washing and rinsing in this case may be of poor quality. Most likely, you will need to rewash the product manually. In the worst case, overloading can lead to damage to the washing machine.

Useful tips for machine washing:

  • the blanket is washed by placing its duvet cover: this way you can avoid clogging the filter with wool villi;
  • The canvas must be cleaned about once every six months. To avoid dusting, it is regularly shaken out. Minor dirt can be treated dry;
  • so that the pile does not bunch up, after cleaning the blanket is combed. So you can return the fluff volume and softness;
  • it is most often impossible to wash a large blanket in a typewriter or by hand. In this case, dry cleaning or dry cleaning can help;
  • to avoid damage to the material, while drying in the sun, the canvas is wrapped in a sheet;
  • after drying, the thing is thoroughly shaken out: this will help restore its softness and fluffiness.

The sheep blanket is stored in a special bag or loosely wrapped in a bag. To protect against moths, you can put a special tool.

Dry cleaning

To resort to cleaning the cloth from sheep's wool should be as rare as possible. Dry cleaning will help to freshen up a thing and get rid of an unpleasant smell.

To do this, you will need to purchase a special product containing lanolin. The detergent is diluted according to the instructions. After the appearance of foam, you can proceed to cleansing. The foam is applied to the contamination, carefully spreading over the surface, after which it is wiped and left to dry horizontally.

If you protect the blanket from dirt and regularly air it, you can avoid frequent washing. Before cleaning the sheepskin linen, you need to make sure that the manufacturer has not put a ban on washing. By following all the recommendations, you can extend the life of the thing, and for a long time preserve its attractive appearance and quality.
