Washing a blanket in a washing machine

If you use a duvet cover and change your sheets regularly, you don't need to wash your duvet. But in some cases, when the blanket lies idle for a long time and starts to smell damp, it just needs to be refreshed.

Depending on what kind of filler your blanket has, its washing will have its own characteristics. Despite this, there are 2 rules that must always be observed when washing:

  • Before loading a blanket into the washing machine, roll it into a tube. This will help to pull the already clean blanket out of the drum without any problems.
  • During washing, select the gentle mode and set the double rinse. Thus, the detergent is completely washed off the blanket, and the filler itself is not damaged during the washing process.

sheep blanket

It is recommended to wash a blanket made of sheep wool at a low temperature - no higher than 30 degrees. Wool is very sensitive to cleaning agents, therefore, for washing you can only use special products such as lanolin. Before the cleaning procedure, place the comforter in the duvet cover. Even if during washing the filler is knocked out of the blanket, it will remain in the duvet cover and will not get into the filter of the machine.

Only quilted lambswool blankets can be washed. If the filler is not stitched in your blanket, after washing, all the wool will come together in one lump and the blanket can be safely thrown away.

wadded blanket

Washing a wadded blanket in a washing machine is only necessary if there is no money for dry cleaning, and washing is simply necessary. If you can use local cleaning methods, replace washing in water with them. For this, contaminated areas can be treated with laundry soap, rubbed with a brush and rinsed with water. If you need to wash the blanket completely, do not wring it directly in the washing machine. When wet, cotton wool becomes several times heavier and the washing machine may simply not be able to cope with such a load.

Duvet

Duvet
Washing a duvet in the washing machine is easy if you add 6-7 tennis balls to the drum. They will help to fluff up the filler and will not let it stray into lumps. In order not to damage the fluff, set the water temperature to 40 degrees.

After the blanket has been washed, check for lumps. If they are, let the fluff dry a little and fluff it.

Fluff the duvet every hour to spread the filling evenly throughout the duvet.

Holofiber blanket

Holofiber blanket
A blanket made of holofiber or with other synthetic filler does not require special conditions for washing. The optimal water temperature for complete cleaning during washing is considered to be 40 degrees, and for spinning it is necessary to set 800 revolutions.

You can also use regular laundry detergent to wash synthetic duvets. Only don't forget to set the extra rinseso that the detergent is completely rinsed out of the fibers of the blanket.

To prevent the blanket from deforming during washing, do not just push it into the drum, but evenly place it inside the washing machine.

If you follow all the tips, then any blanket survives 5-6 washes in a row without consequences. But that doesn't mean you can wash it every week. Without the apparent need, washing can be avoided, and in order to maintain the cleanliness of the blanket, it is enough to wash it once every six months.
